The Weedmaps Team Pulls Into the Desert to Test DSRT Surf

We've all seen this new dreamy wave pool pop up in Palm Desert. A couple days ago, the Weedmaps team did an expedition out to the desert to legit check this wave, and it's worth the hype. DSRT Surf sits out there with mountains on one side, palm trees on the other, and a Wavegarden Cove setup pumping out barrels. It doesn't debut to the public until later this summer, so when the Weedmaps athlete team rolled up with "Zeke" Jacob Szekely, Nathan Fletcher, and Bruce Irons, they were some of the first people on earth to actually surf the finished lagoon. Szekely called it flat out one of the best all-around pools he's ever surfed, saying the barrel is "pretty long and super playful" and that the air sections are "next level," built with a custom ramp the Wavegarden engineers helped design just for airs.

The whole session ran deep with surf royalty, Nathan Fletcher, Bruce Irons, Bob Martinez, and Matt Archibald all sharing waves. For Szekely, watching his heroes go off in the same pool felt less like a surf trip and more like a skate session, everyone hooting, everyone getting a piece of the action. As he put it, "everybody got nugs, everybody was doing sick combos," and the whole thing just felt like a moto sesh or a day at the skate park, the kind of energy he said he wants to be part of going forward. The session ran straight into the night too, with some of the best airs of the whole day landing after dark.
