YÜTH Issue 4 Magazine release

Issue 4 hits a lot of milestones for YÜTH. Our first snowboarder on the cover: Jake Canter, our second year making magazines, and partnerships with brands we used to dream of having in our magazine. This issue is absolutely stacked front to back with banger photography and journalism, but one thing sometimes overlooked is the evolution of page layouts and creative direction. We asked Creative Director/Designer Mick Sowry and Designer Danny Cullen to write about how they feel about Issue 4. Give it a read:

“I could not be more stoked about Edition 4. Working on this issue felt like a real turn of the page (HAH). We got really playful with the design, pushing our boundaries to create something that feels genuinely standout. Our in-house virtuoso, Mick Sowry, came out of the gate with some epic pages on our first few stories, and I knew, way early, that this one was going to be a banger. It’s no question that YÜTH is about the stories, the athletes and artists, and writers who say and do things worth giving a damn. It’s incredible what we get to do and the game-changers we’re able to talk to. As a designer, my role is to amplify and honor all that talent. Let me tell you… this one kicks ass. It’s bold. It’s cool as f***. Spend time with it, and you’ll understand why YÜTH continues to feel more intoxicating with every issue.”

- Danny Cullen

“The challenge with every new Yuth Mag is, to paraphrase Mikey and Carson, ‘to give the Yuth more punk’ while respecting the words and images of our incredible contributors. Even if it looks like a mistake (like the cut-off headlines), it is on purpose, as we evolve Yuth issue by issue. It’s awesome having Danny Cullen on board sharing editorial design too. He keeps surprising me in a good way, and doing things I’d never have thought of, which is the superpower of youth. Can’t wait to start 5.”

- Mick
